Journey for the search for my soul mate
INTRODUCTION
Few days back, I joined SDCOM and BM and after going through various profiles, i was
transfixed on a profile. It was SBK’s.
My first thought on reading about SDK was “
Wow, I have always wanted to be with a person
like this”. Words,on her profile, were straight and gripped my heart and mind instantly.
Nevertheless, I ignored it only to come back few days later and ended up sending a request to
connect.
After that, an epic saga of misunderstanding, initiated by me, unfurled. I was a little adamant as i
felt we were totally suitable for each other. I wanted to see how we would fare if she gives me a
chance, and sought her answer on it.
She replied stating that she would not want to connect with me as i smoked and drank! She
wanted a healthy mate and concluded that my smoking and drinking habits would have
rendered me infertile. The comment was not surprising, she worked as researcher in a centre
aiding sterile patients!!
After reading her reply, I was heavily disappointed and thought well who would give up smoking
for a girl. But, within 5 seconds into my decision i retracted as I really liked her personality and
besides i never wanted to continue smoking in my life. I decided to give up smoking once and
for all. I wanted to hear her opinion again, now that i would not be smoking. I sought her again.
Now, i wanted to connect with her but, at the same time did not want to intrude into her personal
space. If she did not want to connect i would understand, I was not a saint world
and its people
would surely be irked by people like me. But, no matter what the reply would be, i decided to
give up smoking. I could not continue further with this ill habit.
Finally, after 3 days she replied and i could infer through her words that probably she would be
open to a conversation. I grabbed the opportunity.
What happened next totally shocked me. This girl was unlike i have met. Her base was her
faith in God such
a stark quality in this era! With this knowledge, my doubts to keep her
happy and satisfied began lurking somewhere in the vicinity. I would not want to let her go; she
was a gem that's all i knew but also It would kill me to hitch her and then ruin her course of life.
She told me that God directed her to me which totally shocked me because i was deep down in
sin and guilt. If her invocation was true, i would be eternally indebted to God for giving me a
thought. But, at the same time, I too wanted to understand that process of invocation and
direction. I too had to to hear that call.
Our conversations then led us to believe that we have profound feelings for each other and
wanted to understand God’s plan for us before we move ahead in our conversations. We set out
to have a 3 day break and seek God’s guidance for our lives . This notes jots down my
experience and learning in that journey. I hope God would grace us and exhibit his plan for me
and for us in this frame of time.
Day 1
My efforts will zero in on (1) establishing a link with God, and (2) obtaining his direction for my
married life.
Effort on finding information on marriage
Like always, began with a google search. Found the first link which directed me to a site talking
about Genesis Ch. 24 . This biblical story talked about finding a bride for Issac.
What i’ve learned:
● God does have plan for people’s marriage too
● People must act in faith
● God will guide us to the person he has appointed for us
● Marry a person who believes in Lord
● It is necessary to obtain parental consent
● It is necessary to obtain consent from people who are getting married
● Love comes after marriage
Effort on establishing link with God
Googled and found a site which detailed the following:
● God is already knocking at our door. We need to open our doors and let him in
Revelation Ch 3: 20
○ God has a plan for us
○ We are not able to reach it because of our sins
○ Jesus died for our sins so that we are forgiven and we have abundant life.
○ Jesus is the link for us to covet that plan
To accept god in our life we need to accept Jesus into our heart. The process to welcome him
are as follows:
Do the following
● accept that Jesus is the son of God
● repent your sins
But, this is not enough because :
● It is only through God’s grace that we are able to achieve the closeness with
God. Our efforts are not worthy enough.
● We should consider having God in our life a Gift from God
Instead, we must
● grow faith
● faith is established through prayers which actually means holding conversation
with God
Thoughts about SBK and me
1 Peter Ch 3:17
● Perhaps, I was an unbeliever as i did not believe in the words of God. ( 2 Corinthians 4:4)
● Actions not words are necessary for me
My conclusions for the day
● She is a religious person as i had perceived
● She is the kind of woman to get married to
1 Peter Ch 3:17
: This chapter talks about wife being submissive to husband and how she
should react in case she marries an unbeliever or a believer.
○ I felt that she was was not outwardly. Her introductions were directed towards
God. She spoke of marriage as relationship between husband, wife, and God “
Equally Yoked”
○ Equally Yoked raises a question are
we on the same spiritual level with God.
We need to talk about this??
Day 2
Overflow from Day 1:
2 Corinthians 6:14 On
being Unequally yoked Well,
we may be unequally yoked
but does not mean that it is going to stay that way. One of us has to change the
relationship with God. As she is in the better position, it would be a mistake to ask her to
renege her commitment with God. It has to be me who needs to improve.
N ot to be equally unyoked... is what the bible says not to be in a relationship.
My
perception about SBK and her expectations for a marital reunion are as follows:
● She is well versed with the bible
● She is pious
● She would want to stay the same or maybe more gradually
● “A family that prays together stays together “is
what she believes in
Am I Willing to improve my relationship with God?
Yes, not an issue i would want to improve my relationship with God.
I am ready to invest my time to be one in God. I am willing to allow God into my life.
More importantly, this is a personal commitment to God rather than an act of
appeasement to anyone. Posing to be faithful is foolishness, unwise and impossible.
How to grow spiritually?
God’s holy spirit, given after repentance and baptism Acts
2:38
Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the
times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord Acts 3:19
W hat is repentance?
Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance, and patience,
not realizing that God’s kindness leads you toward repentance Romans
2:4
Repent, then, and turn to God , so that your sins may be wiped out , that times
of refreshing may come out from the Lord. Acts
3:19
Confess
Repent and be baptized… .in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of
your sins Acts
2:38
I confess my iniquity ; I am troubled by my sin Psalm
38:18
God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble . (James 4:6)
If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross,
and follow me. ( Matthew 16:24 )
Post repentance
Jesus said " repent ye, and believe the gospel ." Mark 1:15
…. performing deeds in keeping with their repentance Acts
26:20
….you will receive the gift of the holy spirit.. Acts 2:38
How to be baptized?
...Those who accepted his words were baptized.. Acts 2:41
So, I conclude with the following for the day:
● I confess my inequities to God, so that they may be forgiven
● I would take the burden to not repeat my sins and live in the Godly manner
● I would like to thank God for his grace in forgiving me
● i would humbly seek God’s help and guiding me further in my life
● i accept the words embellished in the bible
Other things that were understood today:
Need to understand few important things first, before plunging into the act of marriage.
● Love your wife as yourself, as a vital portion of your body Ephesians 5:20
● Husbands need to honor their wife, as we are both heirs to the grace of life, that
their prayers may not be hindered
● Relationship with God is paramount in a marriage
